How to configure Ptcl dsl Connection with any router/modem

Ptcl Broadband DSL supports both telephone lines, fiber Optics and simple copper wire. Before you start to configure a new modem you must have little basic knowledge about broadband. My other topic “what is broadband” give u little idea about broad band. Usually a simple dsl system is consist of a telephone line activated for dsl, a modem or router and a filter (optional) however some routers or modem have built-in filter. A personal computer(PC) With LAN card installed and working properly.

How to use Dsl line Filter: It’s a device/component which separates your telephone line and dsl line. Its also known as splitter. Some routers have built-in filter they have 2 RJ-11 connector (RJ-11 is the cable connector used at the end of telephone cable see in picture) one connector is use for line (directly coming from exchange office) other is used for phone where you can connect any telephone set.

Remember don’t use 2 filters at a time it may resist against Connectivity.
A simple filter looks like in picture consist of 1 line-in and 2 line-outs where line in is use for telephone line. And with line-out we can use telephone set and dsl modem see in picture.
Now we will just start to configure our connection.
Step 1
First of all Connect male connector of filter Line-in with telephone line and connect both line-outs with modem and phone.
Now with modem there will be an RJ-47 connector bigger then RJ-11 it’s same as in LAN Card Connect it with LAN card.
In this step you are completed your hardware Configuration.
Turn on Modem and PC. You can Diagnose your configuration in step 2
Step2
Here we will check our connection. Check your LAN card after Turning on modem and PC. There will be 2 lights one may blink and other will remain on. In this case you are doing right thing move further on.
Now check your modem power Light it Must be on with. DSL light will blink for some time and after it. It will remain on. In above case your modem is also working fine. Now in step 3 we will configure our software settings.
Step3
For this step you must know your dsl username and password and your wire type(fiber optics or cupper)
If you don’t know any one from above Call 1218 ptcl help line and ask them these details. You have to write this information any where for your record. We will go further. Double click on 2 tvs that r in task bars notification area the very right-down corner of screen see picture.
Open Internet explorer and right this web address in it
192.168.1.1
It will ask you username and password.
Default username and password in most modems is “admin” without quote however it may differ if this will not work then you can find username and password on modem Manual.
Once you access modem’s control panel Make a new (Advance) WAN connections and fill the formas bellow let extra things as they r and skip if any of below thing not in the form.
*Connection Name: Ptcl
*Connection type: pppoe
Tick NAT box if it is available.
*Now in ppp settings use LLC Encapsulation
*Put your ptcl Username and Password (provided by ptcl)
*Keep alive time: 999
Authentication must be auto.
MTU is 1492 bytes
Enforce MTU box checked
Default gateway is checked
Now come to PVC settings
*For fiber optics
*VPI:8
*VCI:81
*And for cupper wire in PTCL’PVS settings
*VPI:0
*VCI:103
After it you are done click on Apply and then save.
Restart you modem and PC and enjoy your broad band
